FAQs

Please read our FAQs to find out more.

Is this a genuine chamois leather drying towel?

Yes. This towel is made from 100% genuine chamois leather, not a synthetic imitation. Genuine chamois is known for its absorbency and softness and has been used for automotive drying for decades.

Will it scratch my car paint or clear coat?

No. When used correctly on clean, wet surfaces, the natural low-abrasion fibres of genuine chamois leather help reduce friction and protect modern clearcoat paint.

How absorbent is the chamois leather towel?

This chamois holds water within its open fibre structure and can absorb several times its own weight, allowing you to dry panels quickly and leave them streak free. Genuine chamois is historically chosen for this property.

Can it be used on glass, chrome and trims?

Yes. It is soft and absorbent, suitable for drying glass, chrome, mirrors, and trim as well as paintwork, as long as surfaces are clean before use.

How do I care for my chamois so it lasts a long time?

Rinse the chamois thoroughly after each use with clean water, wring out excess, then store slightly damp in its container. Avoid detergents or bleach as they can dry out the leather. Proper care maximises longevity.

Can I wash it in a washing machine?

No. Machine washing and harsh detergents damage natural chamois leather, making it hard and brittle. Gentle hand rinsing only gives best results.

Can I use this on windows and glass?

Absolutely! Chamois leather is excellent for drying windows, windscreens, and mirrors. It leaves glass perfectly clear and streak-free without the need for additional polishing.

How long will this chamois last?

With proper care, a quality genuine chamois can last for many years. Regular rinsing after use and proper storage are key to longevity. Replace it when you notice significant thinning or if the leather starts to break down.

How does chamois compare to microfibre towels?

Chamois leather is super absorbent and can trap water within its fibres, providing a traditional low-friction drying experience. Microfibre towels are also effective and easier to maintain, but they do release synthetic fibres when washed. Both have a place in a car care kit.

Can I machine wash this?

No, never machine wash genuine chamois leather. The agitation and detergents will damage the natural leather fibres. Simply rinse by hand in clean water after each use.

What size is the chamois when wet?

The chamois expands when wet, growing to approximately 60cm x 40cm. This large size allows you to dry your entire car quickly and efficiently.

Will it leave water spots?

When used correctly, chamois leather leaves surfaces completely dry without water spots or streaks. The key is to wring it out regularly as it absorbs water, so you're always using a damp (not saturated) chamois.

Is genuine chamois eco-friendly?

Yes! Chamois leather is a natural, biodegradable material. Unlike synthetic alternatives made from petroleum-based materials, genuine chamois has a much lower environmental impact and breaks down naturally at the end of its life.

Is it biodegradable and environmentally friendly?

Yes. Genuine chamois leather is a natural, biodegradable material and produces no plastic microfibres in wash runoff, unlike many synthetic drying towels.
